Gainesville 2017 Event News Brief — by Jason Davis
On February 17 to 20th Master Ou taught a series of lectures and classes in Gainesville, Florida. I find that Florida provides a welcome respite from winter and it was no different this year. John Paul did a wonderful job coordinating and arranging the hotel and meeting room facilities. As well Vincent Chu taught three classes of Pangu Tai Chi that were well received. It was exciting to see so many familiar faces and an honor to learn from Master Ou.
What made this event particularly memorable was that there were many advanced topic lectures offered. I am reminded of an excerpt from the revised edition of the book entitled “Pan Gu Mystical Qigong”:
Pan Gu Mystical Qigong advocates the philosophy of “practical experience is the basis, comprehension is a shortcut,” and of “taking practical experience as the teacher and taking society as the master in bringing happiness to mankind.”
The part of the quote “comprehension is a shortcut” has always struck a chord with me. As a result, I am always eager to attend Master Ou’s lectures not only because the energy is very healing but because he also shares in his lectures high level practical philosophies on how to conduct a meaningful life.
One of the themes discussed this year was that we need to try hard to show our best qualities and demonstrate kindness towards others. If we are truly able to do this then we will master a shortcut for our lives. It doesn’t matter if it relates to your physical health or intelligence you will earn double the benefits with half the effort. Everything that you do needs to be built upon the foundation of respecting others. Through your contributions you can make things more convenient and comfortable for others.
Master Ou shared philosophies from the Song Dynasty that demonstrated the high moral standard by which the ancient Chinese people lived. It was interesting to hear the impact that two profound sentences from that period had on Master Ou’s life when he read them in his childhood. Once again the emphasis was on taking care of and focusing on the happiness of others. Master Ou said that he had included these sentences on his second lyrical chant CD. When I get to know about the meaning of the songs that Master Ou sings I can understand why they have such a profound influence on me. Obviously, Master Ou instills in his music powerful healing energy but the songs also contain deep wisdom in the lyrics.
Master Ou also held a question and answer session during some of the lectures. I am always impressed with the questions that people ask and the answers that Master Ou gives. They can give a real insight into how to maximize the benefit of this practice. One of the questions related to how is it possible to embrace an infinitely expanding universe. The answer was to feel like your heart is also unlimited and broad. Use your unlimited broad mindset to embrace the unlimited universe. I thought there was profound wisdom in that answer.
All in all it was a very healing weekend filled with valuable insights on how to improve one’s heart and soul and develop more kindness. I feel very fortunate to have a teacher like Master Ou and to be able to attend such events as this. I greatly appreciate that Pangu Shengong teaches people in a practical way how to improve themselves. I hope to see everyone at more events in the coming year.
